Sony today announced their new slim and elegant handheld to compete with the Palm m500 and Handspring Visor Edge units. It is .39 inches thin with the first 320 x 320 monochrome screen. Microsoft is expected to show off their new Windows CE v4.0 operating system at Comdex Fall 2001. This OS will reportedly support: Intel's new X-scale processor technology; new gigabyte Type II PC Cards from IBM & Toshiba; and wireless communications.

Raynet Technologies has announced the release of a new Handspring Springboard module called "Raynet Personal Massager" that offers three modes: squeezing, chopping, and tapping. [Available via PalmGear]

Motient has announced a MobileModem for Palm V that enables two-way email pager messaging. The modem device will sell for US$180, and monthly service is US$50. The current Motient network reportedly covers "99% of the 565 most populated U.S. cities."

SplashData offers "SplashWallet" for Palm OS devices that includes three core applications: SplashID for keeping passwords; SplashMoney for electronic check registry; and SplashPhoto for digital images.

Handheld Media Group has announced SyncFest (sponsored by Palm) - an exposition showcasing Palm Powered handheld computing technologies to device users that will be held 27Oct01 in San Jose, California.

CNET is reporting that IBM expects that their new PowerPC 750FX microprocessors will be able to operate at the 1-GHz range. [MicroDesign Resources]
